Flynn was a 33-year Army officer and DIA Director who pleaded guilty in December 2017 to lying to the FBI about his conversations with the Russian ambassador — calls that took place while the Obama administration was imposing sanctions on Russia for election interference, and which concerned whether those sanctions would be reversed. On December 18, 2020, he participated in an Oval Office meeting where he proposed declaring martial law and having the military seize voting machines. Trump pardoned him in November 2020.
