Biographical Overview

Gordon M. Nixon is the former President and CEO of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), one of the world’s largest and most respected financial institutions, a position he held from 2001 to 2014. During his tenure, RBC grew to become the largest bank in Canada by market capitalization and significantly expanded its U.S. wealth management, capital markets, and global institutional banking operations. He is a Companion of the Order of Canada (C.M.) and Officer of the Order of Ontario (O.Ont.).

Nixon has been on the BlackRock board since 2015 and chairs the Nominating & Governance Committee — giving him primary oversight responsibility for the governance practices of the world’s largest asset manager. He also serves as Chairman of BCE Inc. (Bell Canada Enterprises), one of Canada’s largest telecommunications companies.
