Who Is Gary Palmer?

Gary James Palmer (born May 14, 1954, Hackleburg, Alabama) is a Republican U.S. Representative serving Alabama’s 6th Congressional District since January 2015. He serves as Chair of the House Republican Policy Committee, which coordinates policy messaging and legislative strategy for House Republicans.

Palmer holds a B.S. in Commerce & Business Administration from the University of Alabama. Before Congress, he founded and led the Alabama Policy Institute, a conservative think tank, for 24 years. He served as president of Alabama Policy Institute from 1989 to 2014.

Palmer is known as a fiscal conservative and serves on the Energy & Commerce and Budget committees.
