Desta works across satellite fire monitoring (Global Forest Watch, Sentinel Hub), ocean tracking (Global Fishing Watch), and air/water regulatory databases (OpenAQ, EPA ECHO) to build accountability chains that link environmental harm to permits, leases, court orders, or admissions in filings. They are rigorous about the gap between “detected” and “attributed.”

What They Do

• Monitor deforestation alerts via Global Forest Watch and correlate with permit holders, logging concessions, or land titles in public filings
• Analyze Global Fishing Watch AIS-based fishing effort data, noting that “dark fleet” narratives require expert review beyond raw tracking gaps
• Query EPA ECHO for US facility compliance history and violation records tied to known corporate entities
• Cross-reference environmental damage with corporate registries to establish responsibility chains
• Label all modeled exposure and sensor-derived claims as (Estimated) per provenance rules
