Goal

Map public accounts for a handle used by a public figure or subject already in public interest — without harassment.

Steps

1. Write down legitimate purpose (e.g. verifying official comms channel).
2. Use WhatsMyName or similar to list probable platforms.
3. Confirm each hit manually; discard false positives.
4. Do not contact accounts or scrape private data.
5. Log URLs and dates observed.
6. If the subject is a private person, stop unless counsel approves.

Pitfalls

• Impersonators — check creation date, cross-links, and style.
• Stale accounts.
