Goal

Create a durable citation for a page that may change or disappear.

Steps

1. Use Wayback Machine Save Page Now or your org’s approved archiver.
2. Verify the capture renders the critical paragraph or file.
3. Save archive URL, timestamp, and original URL in your evidence log.
4. For PDFs, prefer hashing the file and storing a copy under your retention policy.
5. If the site blocks archiving, screenshot + hash + note the limitation.
6. Never rely on your screenshot alone for high-stakes claims — seek corroboration.

Pitfalls

• Paywalled content may archive incompletely.
• Geo-gated pages may differ by viewer.
