Who Is Sam Graves?
Samuel Bruce Graves (born November 7, 1967, Tarkio, Missouri) is a Republican U.S. Representative serving Missouri’s 6th Congressional District since January 2001 — his 12th consecutive term. He chairs the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, which oversees federal spending on roads, bridges, railways, aviation, ports, and waterways across the United States.
Graves holds a B.S. in Agriculture from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is a private pilot and farmer. Before Congress, he served in the Missouri State House (1992–1994) and Missouri State Senate (1994–2000).
Graves won a competitive special election in 2000 to succeed Pat Danner, and has been reelected with growing margins since. The Transportation & Infrastructure Committee has jurisdiction over hundreds of billions of dollars in federal infrastructure investment.
