Biographical Overview

Wanda M. Austin, Ph.D. served as President and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation from 2008 to 2016, a federally funded research and development center that provides technical guidance for national security space programs. She joined the organization in 1979 and worked there for over 37 years. She also served as Interim President of the University of Southern California from 2018 to 2019.

Austin is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and is recognized as one of the most accomplished aerospace engineers of her generation. Her background in national security space systems — systems that include both military satellite infrastructure and commercial applications — gives her particular perspective on the intersection of technology and government that is highly relevant to Apple’s regulatory environment. She joined the Apple board in 2024.
