Goal

Determine whether an image is original, recycled, or mislabeled in time or place.

Steps

1. Save a copy of the image with hash (SHA-256) for your log.
2. Run Google Images search by image and TinEye.
3. Sort results by oldest first when the UI allows.
4. Open earliest credible source; record date and context.
5. If image is cropped, try uncropped variants or adjacent frames from video.
6. Document unknowns (e.g. first appearance not found).

Pitfalls

• Stock photos reused legitimately.
• Mirrored or filtered images may reduce match quality.
