Who Is Tim Walberg?
Timothy L. Walberg (born April 12, 1951, Chicago, Illinois) is a Republican U.S. Representative serving Michigan’s 5th Congressional District. He first served representing Michigan’s 7th District from 2007 to 2009, lost his reelection bid in 2008, then won again in 2010 and has served continuously since 2011. He chairs the House Education & Workforce Committee, which oversees federal education policy, labor law, workplace safety, and pension regulations.
Walberg holds a B.A. from Western Illinois University, an M.A. in Biblical Studies from Wheaton College, and has completed graduate study at Reformed Theological Seminary. He is an ordained minister and former pastor. He served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1998 and again from 2004 to 2006.
The Education & Workforce Committee oversees the Higher Education Act, workforce development programs, the National Labor Relations Act, OSHA, and federal K-12 education policy.
