Biographical Overview

Laurence D. “Larry” Fink (born November 2, 1952) co-founded BlackRock in 1988 with seven partners, having previously served as a Managing Director in mortgage securities at First Boston. Under his leadership over more than 35 years as CEO, BlackRock grew from a startup into the world’s dominant asset management company, managing over $10 trillion in assets for governments, sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, and retail investors worldwide.

Fink is one of the most influential figures in global finance and capital allocation. His annual letters to CEOs have been widely read as corporate governance standards and have addressed topics ranging from stakeholder capitalism to ESG investing and climate risk. BlackRock served as a primary market stabilizer during the COVID-19 market crisis in 2020, when the Federal Reserve contracted BlackRock to manage its corporate bond purchase programs — a relationship that illustrates the company’s central role in the U.S. financial system.

Under Fink, BlackRock’s political strategy has shifted significantly toward the Trump administration since 2024, including board additions associated with conservative and Trump-aligned figures and a reduction in ESG-focused rhetoric. Fink has personally been present at meetings with Trump administration officials regarding investment policy.

He holds a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA and an MBA in Real Estate from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
